Quality Certifications
Since 2011, the school has committed to a continuous improvement approach, aiming to constantly enhance its operations and optimize its missions. Thanks to the dedication and engagement of the staff, this quality initiative was successfully recognized in February 2014 with the award of the ISO 9001:2008 certification for all activities related to engineering education. Since January 2017, the school has been certified ISO 9001:2015 for all engineering education activities: Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematical Engineering and Data Science, Physical Engineering, and Production Systems Engineering.
Why did you initiate a quality approach within your school? What were your objectives?
Polytech Clermont, like all engineering schools, has always been committed to continuous improvement. In 2011, it decided to structure this approach according to the ISO 9001 standard to organize its operations in a process-based manner. The goal was to optimize its functioning and improve the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
More specifically, this approach aims to professionalize collaborations with socio-economic actors and to support each student’s success, rapid professional integration, project management skills, and ability to evolve in the professional world.
It should be noted that a significant number of schools in the Polytech network are following the same initiative.
Such an approach involves the entire community. How was it perceived by staff and students?
The values of respect, responsibility, communication, and listening were at the heart of the project. Gradually shared by the community, these values allowed work in a climate of trust conducive to exchanges and to adherence to the ISO 9001 certification process.
Implementing such an approach requires time, energy, and sometimes a reassessment of certain operational methods. Beyond that, the most important outcome of this work has been an awareness of each person’s role within the organization.
What added value has the certification brought?
The implementation of the quality management system led Polytech Clermont to revisit its methods of interaction with partners, particularly companies. A more rigorous and, above all, objective monitoring of partnership activities (teaching interventions, agreements, internship supervision) was deployed, and the results are evident.
